New Lao-Japan Traditional Culture Education Centre opened

(KPL) Lao-Japan Traditional Culture Education Centre was opened at Nongthatai village, Chanthaboury district, Vientiane Capital, on 18 February.

The centre was handed over by Mr Masaski Miya****a, Japanese Ambassador to Laos, and Mr Hansana Sisane to President of Lao Textile Museum, witnessed by Prof Bosengkham Vongdara, Deputy Minister of Information and Culture, and attended by General Directors, the International Organisations and senior officials.

The construction project was financed by Japanese government, worth US$82,503, which started early 2007.

Mr Hansana Sisane, President of Lao Textile Museum said that the centre is a Lao style with two-storey wooden house.

“We have applied all our wisdom and much efforts to integration of the Lao way of life and nature to every detail of the building. That is our intention to preserve culture and environment,” he continued.

In the future the Laos-Japan Traditional Culture Educational Centre will serve as venue of cultural exchange between Laos and Japan or Laos with other countries. It will also stage cultural activities including training of traditional music, reading and writing of ancient manuscripts, and providing knowledge in different areas to younger generations.

While, Japanese Ambassador also said that the Japanese government extended grant assistance amounting to US$82,503, to the Lao Textile Museum for construction project of the Lao-Japan Traditional Culture Education Centre, under the scheme of Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects.

The government of Japan provided this assistance for constructing the Lao-Japan Traditional Culture Education Centre where Lao people can learn Lao traditional culture such as traditional musical instruments and ancient literature and characters. Furthermore, this centre shows beautiful Lao culture to visitors from various countries including Japan.

It is expected that the implementation of this grant assistance will contribute to revitalizing Lao traditional culture, passing it to the next generation and strengthening the cultural exchange between Lao people and people from other countries including Japan.
